Yasmin includes Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol. It works as an ideal contraceptive to avoid unwanted pregnancy. It works on the menstrual cycle in such a manner that the ovaries do not discharge an aged egg. Consuming this medicine modifies the condition of the cervical body fluid as well as the uterine covering. It also disrupts the development of sperm cells to the uterus to prevent connection of a treated egg to the uterus.
Dosage and direction
You need to consume one pill every day from the first day of your period. In case you miss a dose, you need to take two pills the next time. Avoid skipping the dose, as it may increase the chances of pregnancy. In case you are already consuming any other contraceptive pill, then you should not take Yasmin along with it, as it may cause the acute imbalance in the hormones.
Every pill of Yasmin contains 3.0 mg of drospirenone and 0.030 mg of ethinyl estradiol. However, the 7 ‘inactive’ pills do not contain any hormones.
During the initial stages of Yasmin consumption, it is advisable to use additional contraceptive methods like condoms. Consuming these hormones may heighten the risk of blood clotting, heart attack, stroke in patients who are above 35. People who smoke are at a higher risk of side effects. In case you suffer from heart, blood pressure, congestive heart failure, angina, high cholesterol, depression, seizures, epilepsy, diabetes, or any other health ailments, we suggest you seek medical advice before consuming Yasmin.
Patients who are hypersensitive to medicines, or have breast cancer or abnormal genital bleeding, pregnancy or are lactating, should not use Yasmin. Only females who have regular menstrual cycles should consume Yasmin.
Possible side effect
Yasmin tampers the potassium levels when consumed, and hence, females suffering from kidney disease, liver bug, or adrenal disease should stay away from it. Females who are consuming Yasmin for the first time may experience nausea, weight gain, headaches, palpitations, dizzy spells, breast tenderness, and enlargement, along with changes in the menstrual cycle, vaginal thrush, water retention in the body. In some instances, it may even trigger blood pressure, causing liver disorders and blood clots in vessels.
Skipping a dose increases the risk of pregnancy. IN case you skip an active pill, you can consume two capsules before reverting to the original schedule. In case, you skip two active pills consecutively in the first two weeks of treatment, then you can consume two capsules for the next two days, before going back to the original schedule. Further, it is recommended to undergo a birth control test within seven days. In case you miss three pills successively in the first three weeks of treatment, then you need to restart with a new pack of pills. Skipping pills may cause skipping of menstruation for a month. However, if your periods are skipped for more than that, there are chances of pregnancy. If you have missed any pills in the fourth week, then discard them, and restart with a fresh pack.
Overdose of this medicine may lead to nausea and vomiting, vaginal bleeding, increased level of blood potassium. If any such signs are evident, then you need to consult your doctor immediately.
