Acivir is used to treat herpes simplex virus infections related to the skin and mucous membrane. It is triggered post bone marrow transplantation, in case of Herpes zoster infections, HIV, initial and recurring genital herpes suppression and chicken pox.
Follow the instructions of your medical advisor before beginning this medication. Overdose or excessive use for extended periods may cause side effects. It is recommended to start Acivir at the onset of the symptoms. Every dose should be taken with a glass of water. We recommend drinking
more water to ensure that the Kidneys remain healthy. You can consume Acivir with food as well as on an empty stomach. However, consuming it on an empty stomach may cause an upset stomach. Follow the instruction of your doctor and never discontinue the medication before the entire course is complete. Accivir is not used to cure viral infections. In case you miss a dose of Acivir, then you can consume it as soon as you remember. However, if it’s close to the time of your next regular dose, then you can skip it and revert to your original routine. Never take a double dose at the same time. In case you have any queries regarding the dosage or the duration of the course, you should seek medical advice.
You should store Acivir at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F, away from the reach of children and pets. Ensure that the place is not hot, moist or too bright. Never keep it in the bathroom.
As the active ingredient in Acivir is Acyclovir, you should avoid it if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor about any medical history before starting to consume Acivir. Pregnant or lactating ladies need to consult with the doctor and give updates on the existing medicines and supplements you are consuming. If you know of any pre-existing allergies, then inform your doctor of the same. People suffering from a weak immune system, or having kidney issues, should be cautious while consuming Acivir. In case you are undergoing treatment for any other ailment, or are consuming medications which are harmful to the kidney, then you need to be aware that these medicines interact with Acivir.
Never modify, discontinue or extend the dosage without prior medical advice.
Consuming Acivir triggers drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness or blurred vision. These effects may be aggravated by consuming some medicines or alcohol. Avoid driving and other unsafe tasks after consuming Acivir. In case you experience any of these symptoms then you need to sit down for
a while and relax until the effect subsides. Use of Acivir makes you prone to sunburn, and hence we recommend using sunscreen or using proper protection.
Acivir is not a complete cure, nor does it avoid the virus from spreading to others. In case visible lesions are present you need to abstain from sexual contact, lest you infect your partner. Old people may be more prone to the side effects and so it may trigger hallucinations and other side effects. Acivir is not suitable for pregnant and lactating women. And so, in case you realize that you are pregnant, after consuming Acivir, you should immediately inform your doctor about it.
Like any other medicine, Acivir also causes some side effects, such as
diarrhea, headache, nausea, skin allergy, blood in the urine, hallucinations,
mood swings, seizures, and abnormal bruising or bleeding.
